Year 5/6
Upper Juniors
Hello, we are the Upper Juniors class. In our class we like to have fun but also work really hard. As the oldest children in school, we like to act as role models for younger children and show responsibility around school.

What we have been up to...
May
Y6s did amazing in their SATS this month and produced some absolutely brilliant pieces of writing too. We went on a Food and Farming Trip to Driffield Showground to learn about all the rural activity in our area. The Y6s were also given their leaving hoodies as they enter their last half term at Beeford. We also celebrated the 80th anniversary of VE day.
April
April was a quieter moth with the Easter Holidays provididng a well deserved rest! Children wrote a poem for the Easter Service in the church and also took part in egg rolling, egg hunting and a decorated egg competition. We also had some visitors in delivering an engineering and arts based workshop.
March
March was a very busy month! We celebrated World Book Day, had a Show Racism the Redcard work shop, took part in Science Week, went on a trip to Tophill Low and had workshops related to hydrogen cars and greenhouse gases! In lessons we finished our DT project and tasted our delicious bolognaise recipes!
February
In February we had our annual residential trip to Robinwood in Todmorden. The children had an excellent time and took part in activities like canoeing, zip-wire, caving, trapeze and the Piranha Pool. Back in school the children took part in Safer Internet Week and the National Story telling week. Children came to school in their pyjamas, read stories and drank hot chocolate. In lessons, children have been learning about different classifications of animal and using art to make their voice heard. The local newspaper also came to award us with our Healthy Schools Award.
January
We have had a bust start to the year with lots of fun activities and lessons. We have been learning about a new artist, Frida Kahlo, and created portraits in her style. During outdoor learning, we took part in the Big Birdwatch Event and also took sheets home to do in our own garden. The Y6 children volunteered at the ATS (Afternoon Tea Service) in the community centre and helped serve food, clear tables and even did lots of washing up which was greatly appreciated. To help celebrate Lunar New Year, the children all helped create and then eat a vegetable stir fry which they all loved!
December
As always, December is a very hectic month in school. We did amazing in our Christmas play this year and had a brilliant Christmas dinner. We made decorations in outdoor learning and also made stuffed Christmas toys as part of our DT this term. We all painted a calendar in the style of Salvador Dali to take home and made Christmas cards. We raised money for charity by wearing Christmas jumpers one day and the school council organised a fabulous Christmas Karaoke that we all enjoyed. In English, we wrote stories based on 'The Snowman' and finished our fairy tale inspired news paper reports.
November
November was another very busy month as we already started our Christmas rehersals and sons. In the classroom we had great fun looking at a pig's heart in our science lessons. We celebrated Odd Socks Day as part of anti-bullying week and also helped raise money for Children in Need. On the 11th we went to the war memorial with Rev Shirley to pay our respects as part of Armistice Day. On two occasions we have also helped support the ATS service by helping pensioners in the village. It was Parliament Week in November so we looked at how parliament works and held some class debates on issues that are being discussed in commons.
October
October has been jam packed with lots of exciting events. We finished our English topic on 'Rose Blanche' and began work on writing newspapers based on the story of Goldilocks and the Three Bears. We ended our history topic of World War 2 with a fabulous trip to Eden Camp where the children were brilliant and had a great day. In school we have had other events such as French breakfast, first aid training, cross country, harvest festival, music workshop with Mambo Jambo and we had a workshop that explored the importance of Black History Month.
September
We have had a very busy and exciting start to the school year. We have voted for our house captains and applied for class and school jobs. We also had our play leader training so we can carry out games and activities with younger children each lunchtime. In the classroom, we have been learning all about WW2 in history and have finished reading 'Rose Blanche' in English. We have taken part in whole school events such as fairtrade fortnight. In science, we have learnt the names and positions of the planets and made a scale version model of the solar system outside on the field. We have been enjoying dance and football in PE so far.
