Hello, we are the Infants Class!

We decided what our own class rules should be. We promise to be kind and helpful, listen to others, use kind hands, say please and thank you, look after our things and most importantly - HAVE FUN!

What we have been up to...

How lucky we were that Florence Nightingale decided to visit Beeford School! She was really impressed with our knowledge of her life whilst her artefacts, stories and activities really brought our learning to life. She was very strict, though, and we had to make sure that we rolled the bandages up neatly!

We raised lots of money for the Yorkshire Air Ambulance by taking part in a sponsored "Heli-hop". 

In our Science unit we have been considering different animals and what they eat. We classified animals according to their characteristics and learned the vocabulary, "carnivore, herbivore and omnivore". 

What a crazy day! It was super to see the really creative ways that we all did "something funny for money". 

We have done so well with finding creative ways to travel to school sustainably with lots of use earning our badges for March. We were super excited that Strider was able to come and present our certificates!!

In DT, we have designed and made our own smoothies. We thought about the flavours we like and we used our knife skills to prepare the fruit and vegetables before blending our own delicious smoothies. 

Our whole school Science afternoon saw us working in our house teams. We worked as engineers to filter water, forensic scientists to work out who had stolen the footballs, aviation engineers to design and make paper planes and helicopters and conservationists to investigate pollination. We were very successful scientists, solving the problems we were given, We were particularly good at paper helicopters - some of them flew so far they went out of sight!

We entered a poetry performance competition hosted by the English Hub. We have recently learned the poem "At the Zoo" so we thought it would be fun to perform that. The judges must have loved it too because we won! 

We were rewarded with some super books which have been added to our class reading area. 

We were so impressed with the different props that the children brought in for World Book Day. It was fab to be able to guess which book they were from - some were easier than others! As always, the children showed amazing crafting skills and the judges had a very tricky time choosing the winner of the "Book in a Box" competition. 

We are very grateful that Reverend Shirley comes into school to support us in our understanding and knowledge of Bible stories. This time, she linked our learning to Winter Olympics as we considered which Christian value might be the most important for each of the different sports. 

We had a super time thinking about what jobs we might want to do when we are older. We gave careful consideration to whether our own personalities might match our favourite jobs and we enjoyed role playing to see if we were right!

Our Science learning involved us investigating plants outside and then making close observations of the different parts of plants whilst we learned what they do. We practised our fabulous drama skills as we worked together to act out how plants grow. 

We used all the skills we have learned in our Art unit to make our very own clay houses. We thought very carefully about the features of the houses we live in as well as the castles we have studied and considered how to fix the clay together to make our models 3D. 

We enjoyed using tools to make our Christmas Reindeer decorations. We cut the branches using the bow saw then the peeler to whittle a face before using a palm drill to make holes for the antlers. What a cute little herd of reindeers!
